may have to offer, a copy of a despatch from Her Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Peking, enclosing a translation from the Chinese text of the Commercial Convention between France and China.

2. A copy of this translation was forwarded to me on 1st June last by Mr. O'Conor with a request that I would furnish him with the opinion of the Hongkong Government as to the probable effect of this Convention as regards the Commercial interest of Colony of Hong Kong.

3. In reply I forwarded to Mr. O'Conor copy of a communication on the subject which this Government received from the Chamber of Commerce in answer to a request that they would express their opinion on the Convention.

I have now the honour to forward copy of a further communication from the Chamber of Commerce, dated 1th July, 1886.
