Dr Eitel has filled the post of Inspector of Schools since 1878, and has performed his duties with considerable ability. We formerly held in conjunction with this office that of Supervisor of Interpreters and Translator in the Supreme Court, which he was permitted to resign in 1882, since when it has not been thought necessary to fill the latter appointment. Dr. Eitel receives only $2,400 a year. Head Master of the Central School receives, including rent, $3,600. The Second Master of the Central School receives $3,180, and the Third Master, if his free quarters are valued at $360, receives altogether the same as the Inspector of Schools. I think Dr Eitel has shown some reason for his application being favourably entertained.
