Hongkong has had a bad name for Government. But it is a pity that the association of "the triads" is not yet put down, but continues to the injury of the people. Originally there was "Pentad" for there had taken refuge from the Authorities, and originated the movement in the Sha-lin Monastery (*).
Five men perished and three remained, each of whom went in a different direction to form associations for rebellion. Hence the name. These lawless associations continue to the present time over Canton Province in great numbers. Elsewhere they are not heard of.
The laws of England permit associations for mutual protection, but certainly do not permit associations for rebellion, to do evil and insult the people.
