6 o'clock in the morning, half past one in the afternoon, and one in the afternoon, they noted down the names of fifty-three Chinese Constables who called in plain clothes, and some of them were paid money, taking it as a matter of course, and some demanding payment and creating a disturbance, when the amount offered was insufficient. No Chinese Constables made their appearance after half past one, and the Inspector states his belief that it was then suspected that he was concealed on the premises, as about 30 more were expected to call by the person who had given information.
