choke, suffocate, or strangle, attempt to render any other person insensible, unconscious or incapable of resistance, with intent in such cases thereby to enable himself or any other person to commit or with intent in any of such cases thereby to assist any other person in committing any indictable offence. The Supreme Court in addition to the punishment now awarded for such offences may direct that the offender if a male be once, twice or thrice privately whipped.
In case of any offender whose age does not exceed 16 years the number of strokes at each such whipping shall not exceed twenty five.
In case of every other male offender the number of strokes shall, unless otherwise specified in this Ordinance, not exceed fifty at each such whipping.
It shall not be lawful to sentence of whipping on the back, and every sentence of whipping shall prescribe the number of strokes and shall provide that such whipping shall be inflicted with a rattan on the breech, privately in prison and within six months of the sentence.
