violence. I have already called attention to the large increase in the number of cases of robbery with violence from the person, shown in the annual report of the Captain Superintendent of Police. The average annual number of cases of this description reported during the five years ending 1880 was 28. In 1884 there were 52 of these cases, and in 1885, 96.

There have been a great number during the early part of the present year, but they diminished in frequency of late, possibly in consequence of the active measures taken against the Triads, which have induced some of the leaders of that society to leave the Colony, or to go into hiding.

Unless some such measures as those contained in the Draft Bill now forwarded be introduced, I believe it will be found necessary, before long, to increase the already large Police Force.
