British Consul at Canton that
other charges of murder and
piracy
were
preferred against -
him, and that evidence would
be brought forward in support of
such charges, as soon as it could be obtained.
The
enquiry into the
charges against Cheung Ah Chi
has been since going
on without making
much progress. He is
represented by a Solicitor, and
consequently every objection that could be raised against the
proceedings has been raised in this case. The great difficulty
in dealing with it has been in the interpretation. The witnesses
speak a dialect of the Fokien Province known as
Kingwa, which is not understood here, and several interpreters have been tried and objected
to by the Prisoner, or found incompetent
