Confidential
Supreme Court. 7th July 1886
C. O. 14531
RECD REGR 12 AUG 86
In conformity with Your Excellency's instructions, I have the honour to submit a very brief report on the doings of the Commission under the Chefoo Convention sitting in this Colony. I shall do myself the honour of drawing up a detailed Report by and bye, but at present, owing to the enforced absence of the Chief Justice, my time is fully occupied with Court work and the preparation of work for the Commission.
Sir Robert Hart, Mr. Brennan, Shao T'ai Jai, and myself met on the 29th Ultimo at the Court Library and had a short discussion, when it was arranged that Sir Robert Hart should state at our next Meeting the proposals of the Chinese Government as to the manner in which we could assist them in the collection of their Opium Revenue.
To His Excellency Mr. H. Marsh C. M. G.
