RECO
5th 1886. REGO 12 AUG RE
I have the honour to request that His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government will be pleased to transmit to the Secretary of State my respectful application to be remembered in case of any vacancy arising in this Colony for the post of Colonial Secretary.
I have been in the Civil Service of Hong Kong nearly 21 years, during which time I have held the Offices of Acting Registrar General, Acting Harbour Master and Marine Magistrate, Postmaster General, Collector of Stamp Revenue, and Treasurer, besides a number of minor appointments. I hope His Excellency will be able to report favourably on the manner in which those Offices have been held by me.
Honourable
J. Stewart, LL.AO.
Acting Colonial Secretary
