I do not know that there is anything calling for remark beyond the statement of the Colonial Surgeon that there is no medical Officer on the Civil Staff available to take charge of the Quarantine Station in case of need. Considering that the Quarantine Station has been used once for about only a fortnight during the last four years, I do not quite see the necessity of strengthening the staff on that account. I do not see what employment would be found for him when not engaged on Quarantine duties. There has always been hitherto a Military Surgeon available to give assistance when required. Before recommending any increase of the Medical Staff, I propose to wait till Dr. Ayres' return to the Colony, when I will discuss the question with him.
