because he was born in Tenang at the time that that Province belonged to the East India Company and claimed therefore to be a British subject: at any rate there were doubts whether his banishment would be legal. Mr. Mitchell-Innes had reported that in a recent case before the Police Court this Interpreter had wilfully concealed the fact that a certain society accused of having as its object the extortion of money was in fact the Triad Society, although he was asked several questions by the Magistrate with the express view of eliciting this fact, and as the Magistrate further informed the Executive Council that he had no longer any confidence in this Interpreter, who has been well known to the Police for some years as a prominent member of the Triad Society, I have, with the advice of the Executive Council, dismissed him from the service.
