New Contracts for

the proposed Postal Service to the East,

and in afterwards laying the whole question before the Executive Council, who unanimously resolved, yesterday, that the tender

of

the Peninsular and Oriental

Company for ten

years,

at

Two hundred and Seventy-five

thousand pounds sterling,

was

Colony.

The Postmaster General is of opinion

that the Canadian

route £275,000.

577

route would not be of much

advantage to the Colony, and in this opinion the Chamber of

Commerce also agree.

"The

Postmaster General and the

Chamber of Commerce also agree

that it would be more convenient

if the hour of departure of the

English Packets

were

fixed at

noon instead of at 4 P.M. as

at present. An hour in the morning

or late in the evening

would be most inconvenient

for the despatch of the Mails.
