if Q. Mary
allow
regard
himself as a free agent with
the power
of determining whether
to obey a formal order

that he

I am aware that the power
the Coroner has to request
Dr. Wharry's assistance
should be exercised
most sparingly
in cases
where from the
preliminary reports made
it seems possible that points
may arise,
in anticipation
of which it is well to be fortified beforehand with the possession of Dr. Wharry's knowledge
and experience.
There has been so much
correspondence arising from Dr. Wharry's
reluctance to consider
himself amenable to the Coroner's jurisdiction,
that I trust His Excellency
will see fit to
merely remind Dr. Wharry of his obligations without calling for any explanation,
and will include in the
reminder that he is to render
assistance in
the Coroner's
court
when required.
I have, etc.
St. E. Wodehouse, Colonel.
