Literally speaking, a salary sufficient "to make it useless to them thousands" $3000 "dollars per annum" is all that is necessary for the reversion to the arrangements sanctioned by the Secretary of State.

$2,160 referred to in the preceding paragraph, that is to say, pay, two thousand one hundred and sixty dollars, and personal allowance, eight hundred and forty dollars.

He will not be allowed "private practice of any kind, and will no longer receive the payments of three hundred and sixty dollars for medical attendance under "the Contagious Diseases Ordinance."

The questions of the employment of Dr. Marques as Assistant Surgeon having been reserved for the consideration of Sir George Bowen, His Excellency has been pleased to decide as follows:

The arrangement is to be provisional and experimental.

The Assistant Surgeon Dr. Marques is to be Resident Surgeon in charge of the Lock Hospital on his present pay and allowances, and is to have charge of the Medical examinations of prostitutes under the Contagious Diseases Act both at the Lock Hospital and at Tautsai.

His Excellency also approves of the Assistant Surgeon assisting in the Civil Hospital and the Small-pox Hospital, under the directions of the Superintendent, but he is to have undivided responsibility in regards to the Lock Hospital.
