Minute by the Colonial Surgeon

Forwarded to the Acting Colonial Secretary, J. Superintendent has declined that his work is too much for him. Be... my work and, he proposes with the assistance of Dr. Marques.

As regards emoluments for one month, is not much. I am left to do my best in finding a substitute, with the approval of the Government, and as far as I can without loss to myself.

The Superintendent does not consider ... times he has had leave and the money difficulties I have had to sustain this place, in his absence, without detriment to himself.

I have had no leave for eleven years and if the Superintendent's objections to what I have proposed are insuperable, I have no alternative but to remain and go on working, leaving my health out of consideration.
