-to, for as far as I know, this constitutes his sole claim to be placed at the head of the Medical Department of the Colony and it is reasonable to believe that his sole object in accepting temporary public employment is the advancement of his private interests. Mr Jordan, as Acting Health Officer of the Port,

devoted only a portion of his time to the Public Service, and it is now expressly understood that the Colonial Surgeon's duties shall not occupy his whole

attention.

fully occupied, and he has always shown himself both able and willing to assist in the Medical Hospital

for last year, copy enclosed) that a second Surgeon is required for the regular work of the Civil Hospital but in other departments it's

officers do double work, and

exertions for a few months to enable their colleagues to get a holiday and with Mr. Marques' help to carry

on the Colonial Surgeon's duties is not unreasonable

in itself, nor is it incompatible with.
