I annexe a statement, showing the different periods of leave taken by D'Ayres and Dr Wharry. The latter has never made arrangements when he has gone on vacation leave for the performance of his duties without expense to the Government. He has always left it to D'Ayres to make the best arrangements he could, and generally speaking they have entailed extra expenditure. In this respect Dr Wharry has always been liberally treated by the Government.

Although Dr. Wharry has brought a serious accusation against me, one which, if true, would prove me to be altogether unfit for the office I have the honour to hold, he does not even hint at what the motive could be or what the influence was which was brought to bear on me, nor does he bring any
