than he is able to accomplish satisfactorily, and has repeated this assertion, after he had been relieved of all Medico-legal work, except in special cases, I thought that I could not consistently sanction an arrangement under which he was to undertake, in addition, the much heavier duties of Colonial Surgeon, which have very much increased during the last few years, and include attendance on all Civil Servants whose salaries do not exceed £400 a year, as well as their families. As member of the Sanitary Board the Colonial Surgeon has also to perform a considerable amount of additional important work. It is to be noted that although Dr Wharry has proposed to undertake all these duties with the assistance of Dr Marques, he has not stated that Dr Marques has consented to assist him.
