G. Bowen at first proposed, as Dr.
Marques had much spare time
at his disposal, to direct him to
give assistance to Dr Wharry at
the Civil Hospital; but the
arrangement, which was experimental, fell through owing to the persistent disregard by Dr. Warry of the
instructions then
given to him.
On the 6th June, 1883, the Governor
was compelled on this account to recall the instructions previously
given, and to direct that, in compliance with the Secretary of State's orders, Dr Wharry should take sole charge of the Hospital. At the same time, however, it was ordered
that Dr Marques should relieve him, except in special cases, of all medico-legal work hitherto supposed to be performed by him, so that he has in fact, much less now to
do than contemplated by the
Secretary of State, when he sanctioned
