Of late large accessions have been made to the lawless and turbulent class of Chinese in this colony and frequent riots and crimes are the results. Quite recently two riots of some magnitude have occurred, one in the heart of the town and the other actually on the border of the European quarters; both being in frequented thoroughfares. On both occasions the Police acted with promptitude, otherwise the riots might have proved disastrous both to life and property.
