A great number of the members of the Society are in Gaol and the call upon the Superintendent was organized by a few of the Freed Society.
I don't know the society's objects, but I heard much about the society. I was informed by a late 1°5 prisoner, an intimate friend of mine, that they wished to revolt against the Hongkong Government should an opportunity arise, but they were in want of arms and art.
About two years ago, during the Irish trouble, there was a project to rescue the Chinese prisoners (about 100 or more) and at the same time attacking the Hongkong Government, but the project was not carried out for want of arms and ammunition. I think he is a member.
The number of members in Gaol is about 200.

They hold their meeting at night and at the hillside, and set a guard to prevent intrusion. There are thousands in Hongkong, Sham Shui Po, and Kowloon. Their object is disorder and rebellion. They protect thieves and robbers if they join, and would prevent evidence being given against them, and their own...
