2. The building is to be erected at the sole cost of Dr. Ho-Kai, a Chinese gentleman, who was called to the Bar at home, and who also studied medicine and obtained Diplomas of M.B.; C.M.; M.R.C.S. Eng.. I am informed that he distinguished himself in his examination for both professions. The Hospital is in memory of his wife, an English lady, whom he unfortunately lost about a year ago. It is proposed to attach to this Hospital a school of European Medicine and Surgery for instruction of Chinese students.

3. A school of this kind was established a few years ago at Takow, in Formosa, in connection with the David Manson Memorial Hospital, and I was requested last month to deliver certificates to two Chinese students who had been educated
