Remarks on certain portions of the Report

I have now to touch upon certain matters in the volume of evidence. In doing so much as I do, I do not propose to refer to the matters which were confidentially discussed, as to some of "the questions."

I feel bound to protest strongly against this question.

1. Because there is not a single word in all Codehouse's evidence to the effect that he had written any such letter.

2ndly Because it was addressed to Ana de ... the questions.

I cannot but take strong exception to the assumption involved in the question put by His Excellency the Major General at page 6.

"Now that the case in which a letter was written by the Magistrate to the Captain Superintendent, telling him that although he could not convict the men, certainly he considered the case one of such grave exception that he considered some action should be taken with reference to one of my subordinates, a Sergeant of Police."

3rdly Because I had minuted my evidence with a note (which is not printed) to the effect that no such letter had been written.

4thly Because His Excellency the Major General had previously been informed (page 32) that no such letter had been received.
