in the Colony also well known to the Police, he has

Kept himself, until now, out of the meshes of the law, but there is the strongest reason to believe that he has been a directing spirit amongst the Criminal

Classes.

With the unanimous

approval of the Executive Council

I have banished this

man

for

five years. The sentence of the

Magistrate was fine;

fine, or imprisonment;

in default of payment. The fine

was at once

paid, and he was very much astonished to find that he had to leave the Colony immediately

afterwards.

Several of the respectable

and wealthy Chinese have

greatly

expressed privately, their satisfaction that this dangerous character has been banished,

and I am assured that the
