all the surplus water flowing from War Department gullies, and gave orders for the discontinuance of bathing by the Troops in Garrison in the swimming bath, so that water from that source might also be available for distribution by the Public Works Department. The Commodore gave directions that water from a 3-inch pipe at the Naval Yard for Launches, Steam-boilers, factory boilers, or washing, and arranged to condense water for these purposes was not to be used as well as for the use of Her Majesty's Ships in Port, so that the Colony might have the advantage of the usual supply for the Navy. With this additional water placed at his disposal, the Surveyor General was able to make arrangements for the relief of the poor in the Eastern part of the city. For the Western half, the best practicable arrangements were made by bringing water in tanks alongside the Praya, as before explained.
