The Inspector of Schools has
just been to see me, and has informed
me as
follows:-
The master of the Lyndhurst-
Terrace Grant-in-aid Boy's School reports that he lost this morning 25 out of 40 children in attendance, all the 25 making various excuses, and showing
unwillingness to attend school in future.
On enquiry
the teacher was informed that there is a rumour
among the lower classes of Chinese to
the effect that the Dytain Water Works and the Tramway cannot be completed unless 500 children are immolated and
buried...
