NOTICE OF NEW BILLS.—The Acting Attorney General gave notice that at the next meeting of Council he would move the first reading of the following Bills:-

(a.) A Bill entitled An Ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 1 of 1884 entitled The Opium Ordinance, 1884.

(b.) A Bill entitled An Ordinance for preventing the sale or taking on board Ship of Spirituous or Fermented Liquors, and for punishing persons hovering about Ships for the purpose of selling such Liquors, or of conveying them on board.

POSTPONEMENT OF THE OTHER ORDERS OF THE DAY.—On the motion of the Acting Attorney General, the other Orders of the Day were postponed.

ADJOURNMENT.—The Council then adjourned to Wednesday, the 28th instant, at 4 P.M.

The Committee meet this day at the request of the Acting Colonial Secretary.

The Minutes of the last Meeting, held on the 24th ultimo, are read and confirmed.

(1.) Read a Minute by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government, recommending a vote of $1,386 for repairs to Mountain Lodge.

Read also the report of the Surveyor General, upon which the above Minute was founded. The Committee recommend that the amount should be voted.

(2.) Read a letter from the Director of the Observatory (Dr. DOBERCK) furnishing a detailed statement of the daily work done at the Observatory, and its distribution among the staff, which was asked for by the Committee in connection with his application for an additional Chinese Clerk.

Dr. DOBERCK was present at the meeting of the Committee on the 24th ultimo, and gave the Committee some verbal explanations respecting this application.

After deliberation the Honourable T. JACKSON moves, and the Honourable W. KESWICK seconds, that the Director of the Observatory be allowed an additional Chinese Clerk at $40 a month.
