I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's
Treasury to acquaint you, for the i information of the Earl & enty
that, in accordance with the arrangements in 1875 for the annual revision of the rate at which the Dollar is issued at Hong Kong, in the Straits Settlements, and on the China Station, for Imperial Service payable in this country in sterling, My Lords have caused the necessary calculations to be made of the average price of standard silver in the London market during the calendar year 1884, and of the corresponding value of the Mexican Dollar,
I am to inform you that, according to the terms of the above arrange- ment, the Dollar should be issued during the financial year 1885-6 at the rate of three shillings and eightpence (3s. 8d.); and that, according to the same mode of valuation, the rate of issue of the Rupee in the Colonies of Ceylon and Mauritius, and on the East Indian Station, for Imperial Services payable in this country in sterling, should be fixed at one shilling and sevenpence-halfpenny (1s, 7}d.) for 1885-6.
My Lords desire me to add that the necessary instructions have been sent to the Treasury Chest Officers at Hong Kong, Straits Settlements, Ceylon, and Mauritius, for the adoption of the above rates as from the 1st of April next.
