of the Works from there viception to the furial
settlement of the general design, need no comment

me.
The Surveyor General quotes from a letter of mine,
dated 27th December, 1882, in which I state the

proportion of mixture for the concrete to be to to 1, that

is 4. of broken stone, 2 of clean sharp sand and I
of
Portland bement, by measure, mixed dry, and wetted
by sprinkling with water.
I also desired that large blocks of stone should
not be used, and that "each layer of concrete should
be grouted as it is levelled into the work."
The pedestal, or base of the dam as executed
is a mass of concrete free from large blocks of stone,
in the proportion of 7 to 1 with an inner face, six
feet wide, of 6 to 1.
