SIR,
With reference to your letter of the 13th inst., I am directed by the Field- Marshal Commanding-in-Chief to acquaint you, that H.R.H. has approved of the retirement of Colonel A. H. A. Gordon, York and Lancaster Regiment, on retired pay of £300 per annum, and the requisite notification will be made in the Gazette, on Colonel Gordon acknowledging receipt of this communication.
He should clearly understand, that, inasmuch as this retired pay has been earned partly by Colonial employment, he cannot draw any portion of it while holding a Colonial appointment.

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of copy Horse Guards letter 59833 No. of 23rd inst., informing me that H.R.H. the Commander-in-Chief
49 has been pleased to approve of my retirement on retired pay of £300 per annum, and that the requisite insertion will be made in the Gazette on my acknowledg- ing receipt of this communication-which I hereby do.
With reference to the last para., stating that I cannot draw any portion of this retired pay while holding a Colonial appointment, I beg to acknowledge receipt of this communication also, and I would only beg to add, that in the event of my hereafter accepting a Colonial appointment, I venture to assume that no objection will be made to my respectfully making a representation on this subject through the War Office to the Treasury.
