3. My Lordo desire me to add that in a
letter dated 31st March, N.° 34, the Commander
in Chief
on the China Station
reported
that
if the steam launches belonging to the Colonial
Government
were manned and armed they
would be useful
as auxiliaries to the Naval
forces employed for the protection of the Colony,
and that the armament required would
be
2.7 pounder 5 cut Boat Guns.
6. Nordenfeltt Machine Guns
50 Rifles and Bayonets with Accoutrement.
Their Lordships presume that there will be no difficulty in fitting the Launches or
in obtaining the arms and accoutrement.
