It will be seen that the intimation as to whether the decision over-ruling the advice of the Attorney General adheres to his former opinion, I should mention that it has been remarked here that the despatch now under reply (No. 51) contains no indication whether the Law Officer of the Crown in this Colony was taken on the advice of the Law Officers of the Crown in England, or only on the advice of the Colonial Department in Downing Street; and that, with all due respect for that Department, the opinion of the Law Officers of the Crown or legal points would necessarily carry far more weight, and would be regarded as definitely settling...
