troops receives for his services a

capitation rate on the number of

Roman Catholic Soldiers in the

garrison,

which amounts altogether at present

to nearly One hundred and

fifty

pounds (£150) per annum. I... presume that, if Bishop Raimondi's

application is entertained at all, the

payment of a similar sum

by the Colonial Government for services of a Roman Catholic Chaplain at the Gaol, Civil Hospital, etc., would be deemed sufficient. I am informed that the average number

of Roman Catholics in the Civil Hospital and Gaol amounts to

about two hundred annually,

which nearly corresponds

with the average number of Roman Catholic soldiers in the Garrison.

13. It should, of course, be

borne in mind that, if the claims of the Roman Catholic Church in this respect are admitted, similar claims will be probably advanced

on behalf of the Presbyterians and

other Protestant Communions.
