by marriage with one of the Medical members, is Mr. Jackson. It will be remembered that, at the recent nomination by the Chamber of Commerce of a member to serve on the Legislative Council, Mr. Jackson was unanimously selected; and he enjoys, in a very remarkable degree, the esteem and confidence of all classes of this community. His name adds, in the opinion of all competent judges, great strength to an already strong Board.

In conclusion, I would observe that the introduction of a Medical Registration Bill in this Colony was authorized by the despatch of Secretary of State (Lord Kimberley); and that a measure of this nature is more required here than in more settled countries, for, in this floating and heterogeneous community, the great number of passing strangers, and the ignorant classes of the resident Portuguese population, require special protection.
