that the question of granting an increased rate of pay to the Police Force of this Colony was considered in the Finance Committee of Legislative Council on the 25th ultimo, and in the Council on the following day, when it was decided to recommend an increase in accordance with the scheme of Mr. Deane, the Captain Superintendent, which was approved, on certain conditions, in Your Lordship's despatch No. 13420/183 of the 28th August ultimo.
