Mr Gerrard, late First Clerk

in the office of the Registrar General of marriages, and

an old and meritorious

Public servant.

2.

I enclose

a Memorandum from the Colonial Secretary and

Auditor General, showing

the pensions to

which Mr Gerrard is entitled according to the Regulations. It seems

a small

sum for

such long and faithful

services.

3. The

arrangements

to be made in the Registrar

General's office in consequence

of the retirement of Mr Gerrard,

are of primary importance.

In this Colony, for it will

be remembered

that the

Registrar General is ex-officio

the Protector of the Chinese,

and that the communications

between

the Government with the

overwhelming Chinese

population
