These Regulations are made under the authority of Section 25 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 8 of 1879 and the terms "infections or contagious disease" has been used in that Ordinance since 1879 without, I believe, any difficulty having arisen as to its meaning.
The terms "dangerous contagious or infectious disorder", "dangerously infectious contagious disease", "dangerous or contagious disease", and "infectious disorder" are also used in the Public Health and Sanitary Acts (Imperial) 29 & 30 Vic. Cap. 90, 37 & 38 Vic. Cap. 89, 38 & 39 Vic. : Cap. 55 without further definition of the meaning of the words "contagious" or "infectious".
