I was asked to preside
both at the presentation of the
Address to Mr Stewart, and at the
excellent
excellent luncheon, served in the
European style, at which General Sargent, the Chief Justice, the Members of the Legislative Council,
and many of the principal residents in this Colony,
were entertained by our Chinese hosts.
As I remarked in one
of my speeches, this demonstration is equally honourable to the Chinese gentlemen who made it and to the English gentleman (Mr Stewart) who received it.
