Mr Durran, the local Superintendent of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, has informed me that the new Saigon - Tonquin cable has been opened this day. There is now telegraphic communication between Hongkong and Tonquin via Saigon.
2. Mr Durran has also informed me that the Hongkong-Haiphong-Macao Cable will be laid shortly. When this is done, Hongkong will be in direct telegraphic communication with the Portuguese Colony of Macao, and with Haiphong in Tonquin, held by the French.
