$53,159 only, notwithstanding that Sanitary Works, recommended as immediately necessary by Mr. Chadwick, and other extraordinary Public Works, for which provision could not have been made in the Estimates, have been executed to the value of $173,959. The Revenue yielded $170,835 more than was estimated; and the Excess of Revenue (not including the extra Expenditure on extraordinary Public Works), has been $120,800.

It will be perceived that the balance to the credit of the Colony on December 31st, 1883, is estimated at $1,095,505. Hongkong has no Public Debt.
