C.O.

DESPATCH.

2701.

RECEIVED 16 FEB 24

88

There are eight rooms, heretofore occupied by the Commissioner of Police as a sitting and dining room in the same building. They considered that everything would rather be done where they are now. You will probably be some time before we can get Prison to move. I shall try to make spare Excellency's room.

(Minutes.)

Mr Round on 16 Feb.

We promised a further despatch on the subject of Police Provisions last July, & the Governor is now anxious to hear by Telegraph whether the Minute Enclosed may be approved. The only point, I believe, that remains to be decided is whether Chinese and Indian Policemen are to have the same Terms as European.

If it would be a convenience to telegraph that the Prison minute is approved for European Police but refer that despatch follows.

S.W.9. 16 Feb.

It is a fact that the despatch promised has not yet been sent; I am engaged in settling the question.

The Draft received settles the increase of pay, independently of this proposed change in Prison rules.

S.W.9. 28 May.

It appears not; but that the Pensioning Rules have been at the same time altered without waiting any longer for a decision here (see 2756/85).
