It appears, to my great surprise, that there is no provision at present for an

Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Hong Kong; although several late Governors have had the assistance of

Military Officers on their Staff; and although the War Office concurs in this arrangement. Indeed the Officer now Commanding the Troops at Hong Kong, (General Sargent) was authorised to allow

on his arrival, to select
