papers referring to the Botanical and Afforestation Department in Hong Kong.

Sir Joseph Hooker is much gratified at

the sympathetic interest evinced by Sir George

Bowen in the Botanic Garden and the work

of afforestation, both of which the Superintendent,

Mr Ford, has for some years past administered

in an able and intelligent manner. You are
