In reply to your letter of March 3 and previous correspondence on the subject of appointing an assistant to the Superintendent of the Botanical Department of Hong Kong, I am desired by Sir Joseph Hooker to recommend for the post Alexander Bremner Westland,
a native of Scotland and now a gardener in the employ of the Royal Gardens.
Westland has been previously known to The Hon: R. H. Meade,
Colonial Office.
