S.S. Sherard Osborn" is now on her way from Hong Kong to Shanghai to lay the shore ends at the latter port and afterwards at Foo-chow.

I should therefore feel obliged if your Lordship would instruct by telegraph to H.E. The Administrator of Hongkong to grant the landing permission above asked for.

Dear Sir Robert,

On the 17th instant I addressed a letter to the Colonial Office applying for permission to land the Shanghai Cable at Hongkong.

The S.S. "Scotia" is now approaching Singapore and should arrive at Hong Kong in the course of a few days, consequently it will be necessary to telegraph out instructions to the Hongkong Government as soon as possible.
