Now assuming strength of the punch, whatever it is the Chinese adopt for their liquors, to be 7½ degrees, 8 gallons of Hoy how spirits costing 12/10 would be required for 1 gallon of Punch Java spirit, they could get 4 gallons of off there were
equal strength for 9/5. The
cost
by buying
no duty on the other hand, the cost of the two kinds of punch would be the same, but the larger the duty (the duty being independent of the strength), the greater the difference in the cost of the Punch.
