In reply, I am to state to you, for the information of Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies, that, in view of the strong opinion expressed by Sir George Bowen as to the importance attached by the Chinese to the practice, His Lordship is of opinion that the Naval and Military Honours hitherto paid to them when visiting the Port of Hong Kong, should continue to be offered to Her Majesty's Minister at Peking and Tokio and to the Chinese and Japanese Representatives at that Court.
