The above paper has been communicated by me to the Govt. of Hongkong from whom I have heard nothing further on the subject.

The cases of violation by British ships, it was alleged that the revenue cruiser who had belonged to the Chinese Govt. had fired on the Hongkong boat.

The officers who reported the affair disclaim all knowledge of these orders and deny that any of their boats had invaded the waters off Hongkong, of which they had been informed.

This is perhaps the most curious circumstance that has taken place during the three years I have been in charge of this correspondence, and have been of frequent occurrence.
