I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of the Earl of Derby, in reply to Branston's letter of the 23rd instant, that My Lords have no objection to permission being granted to the Eastern Extension, Australasia and China Telegraph Company, under the usual conditions, to land at Hong Kong the shore end of a new submarine cable between that port and Shanghai.

I am to add that the Directors of the Company must understand that Her Majesty's Government...
