may be laid before the Earl of Derby - My Lords desire to observe that it is necessary for the efficacy of Her Majesty's Service that the

Vessels

of the Squadron should periodically be exercised at sea, which would be

obviously impossible if the wishes of the mercantile Communities of many Ports for the constant presence

of a ship of war at each were complied with.

I am glad that my

Lords are

of opinion that Vice Admiral Sir **...** has shown good judgment

in arranging for the adequate protection of British interests, while duly

exercising the squadron under his command.
